14 Mar 2009 Authentic Ideas has announced that it will be holding audition nights for the Lucky Fish Music Festival at Tempo’s Entertainment Park from February to August this year. The purpose of these audition nights is to unearth new talent and allow the public a say in who they want to see performing at South Africa’s newest music and lifestyle festival.

The audition nights are not affiliated to the Durex Ultimate Battle which is a 5 month search for bands around the country, one of the prizes being a main stage slot at the Lucky Fish Festival. Instead, these auditions nights will be run independently of the contest and so bands are welcome to join both initiatives if they see fit to.

Auditions nights will be held on:

• Feb, Friday the 20th + Feb, Friday the 27th
• March, Friday the 20th + March, Friday the 27th
• April, Friday the 17th + April, Friday the 24th
• May, Friday the 22nd + May, Friday the 29th
• June, Friday the 19th + June, Friday the 26th
• July, Friday the 17th + July, Friday the 24th

August is call back month, dates are: Friday 14th, Friday 21st and Friday 28th of August.

The process is quite simple. Any bands wishing to be part of the audition process should send a brief biography overviewing the band and the style of music and referencing a myspace page or website where their music can be heard. Three bands will be chosen to perform each Friday, and as far as possible, the bands will be grouped according to their music genre. All contemporary music styles will be accepted.

All shows are recorded on camera and multi track and snippets will be uploaded onto the Lucky Fish facebook site for Lucky Fish fans to vote for who they think should be on the festival. The criteria will be based on great stage performances and the ability to attract and maintain an audience. Each night, the band with the most fans at the audition show will be awarded a one thousand rand cash bonus. However, the band’s will ultimately be chosen by the public to go through to the Call Back Nights, either via facebook or via the dedicated sms line.

The best bands will receive call backs for the 3 audition nights in August where four bands over three days will be re-watched and chosen to perform at the festival on a stage that best suits their music style. These bands are chosen by fan votes on the day of their performance at the Call Back show and the Authentic Ideas team.

To be part of the Lucky Fish line up, it is not necessary to go through the audition process. This initiative is simply to help the festival organizers see all the bands for themselves and to chose the best possible new talent for the festival. Normal submissions processes are available to bands that don’t feel the need to audition.
