The hit musical Beauty and the Beast, produced in SA by Pieter Toerien and Hazel Feldman in association with Disney Theatrical productions, has wowed South African audiences since opening at the Teatro MonteCasino in Johannesburg in October 2008. The show opened at the Artscape Opera House in the Mother City in January this year, has received critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike and has now been extrended for the second and final time to 29 March 2009.
Last week the cast and production team were thrilled that
Beauty and the Beast had received no less than twelve Naledi nominations for:
- Best Production of a Musical
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Pieter Tredoux as Lumiere)
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Anne-Marie Clulow as Mrs. Potts)
- Best Performance in a Musical (Jonathan Roxmouth as Gaston and Talia Kodesh as Belle)
- Best Musical Director (Louis Zurnammer)
- Best Comedy Performance in a Musical (Jonathan Roxmouth as Gaston and Sibu Radebe as Le Fou),
- Best Comedy Performance in a Musical (Angela Killian as Babette and Katherine Henderson as Madame de la Grande Bouche)
- Best Performance by a Newcomer/Breakthrough (Sibu Radebe as Le Fou)
- Best Theatre Sound Design/Sound effects (Mark Malherbe).
