The 2010 installment of the Table Mountain Blues Summit promises to be the highlight of the South African blues scene once again with the cream of blues musicians in South Africa and some international names for good measure. It will be held at the Bloemendal Wine Estate in Durbanville again on 27 November 2010.
The Boulevard Blues band has been rocking music lovers at venues, events and festivals in South Africa for over a decade, liberating their fans with nourishing soulful Blues and Rock. The band sets high standards in both music genres with their pure quality music that's easy to listen to, and offering an unprecedented and entertaining live performance. Inspired by Dr John Mostert - "Doctor of the Blues" - the band has been playing mainly Blues, in its various forms since their inception in 1998. Portions of their now vast repertoire include Rock classics, some light Jazz, Soul and Funk. With the introduction of many of their own compositions, the band has tastefully added a new facet to their repertoire and high-lighted some formerly hidden talents.

Dan Patlansky is a blues phenomenon, hailed as South Africa's blues prodigy. In 2005 and 2006 Dan was brought to New Orleans by Selwyn Miller, manager of a host of the top blues musicians in New Orleans to showcase his talent. Without a doubt the best blues guitarist to have come out of South Africa. If his guitaring doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and cover your body in goose flesh, check your pulse because this could only mean that your heart has stopped beating.

The Blues Broers plied their trade for over a decade, spreading the word of the blues to all corners of the country. When they played their first gig at the Cafe Royal in November 1989, it was a sound not yet common in South Africa. They subsequently paved the way for numerous local blues bands, such as Delta Blue, Boulevard Blues Band, the BlueStones, Southern Blue as well influencing a host of other prominent musicians, such as Valiant Swart, Arno Carstens and Koos Kombuis, who all freely acknowledge the influence of the Broers on their music.
The Broers were hard at work on their 6th album for the Guava label, provisionally titled "Twelve Year Old", to commemorate their long haul. Sadly the project was abandoned as the Broers amicably parted company to pursue various solo careers.
Previous album releases are "Shake like that" (1992), "Damn Fine Mojo" (1994), "Sharp Street" (1995), "Been Around" (1996) and "Cellar Tapes" (1998).

Albert Frost started playing the guitar in 1989, when he was only 12. He was voted as Best Blues guitarist in South Africa by Stage Magazine. This fact, however, shouldn't let you underestimate the man's serious Rock abilities. In 1994 he started playing alongside his father, the legendary Frank D. Frost, in the awesome blues band, the Blues Broers. Frosted Orange was created in 1996 with artist Simon Orange ,who played keyboard and vocals for Blues Broers.

Guitarist and singer songwriter, Natasha Meister has been hitting up the music scene from a very young age. Although inspired by the blues, she has been capturing the attention of a broad audience including young and old. Dane Taylor Trio is a Power-Blues/Rock band from Cape Town, South Africa. Taylor formed the Dane Taylor Trio with friends, drummer Justin Mark and bassist Rob Shaw. Rob was later replaced by Steve Deck. Dane and Justin both studied through BERKLEE SCHOOL OF MUSIC in Boston USA. Steve graduated at University of Cape Town with a degree in Music. The three of them achieved top grades, critical knowledge and skill, which play a crucial role in their songwriting, production and direction. Heavily influenced by great artists such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, Kings Of Leon and John Mayer, the trio portray a keen sense of melody and groove which keeps them honest and energetic. Their first release entitled "ForeWord" was written, recorded and produced independently in 3 short months. Recorded mostly live, in the space of three days, the trio clearly wanted to capture a certain organic entity and honesty on this debut EP. The trio is currently writing and producing new material, which is to feature on their full length album set for release in 2010.

The festival will be rounded off with the Fender Bender Endorsee Jam featuring Albert Frost, Dan Patlansky and Richard Pryor. With these threee incredible guitarists sharing a stage, anything can happen but the one thing that is for sure is that it will be awesome.
One of the most incredible guitar gigs I ever had the pleasure to experience was Oppikoppi 1998 where Albert Frost and Louis Mhlanga met on stage to fill in for an act that never arrived. With it being unplanned, nothing was prepared and one of the most memorable jams was the result so maybe another similar memory will be made here.

Another highlight of the festival is the giving away of a Fender guitar to one of the audience in a lucky draw, this year will be no exception.

The video clip below is a compilation of excerpts from the 2009 festival
We're proud to announce that www.CombustionTechnology.co.za will again be bringing you this event.
