05 Mar 2010 Kurt_Schoonraad_stars_in_Spiders_and_Mayonnaise___poster_pic_2.jpgAfter sell out seasons in his hometown, audiences in Johannesburg now get the chance to enjoy Cape Town’s funnyman KURT SCHOONRAAD for the first time in his hilarious one-man comedy show SPIDERS & MAYONNAISE, performing at The Fringe at the JoBurg Theatre for a short 2 week season from 13th April 2010.

SPIDERS & MAYONNAISE takes a unique look at the lighter side of being South African; from our every day fears, pet hates all the way to bloomer panties. Come join Kurt on an hysterical journey through South Africa's past, present and future. But if slapping your thighs and rolling in the aisles with laughter is not your thing, then this show is not for you!

Kurt has been dubbed Cape Town's quirkiest rubber face and favourite delinquent, with their audiences loving the ever popular SPIDERS & MAYONNAISE – and now its Jozi’s turn to have their ribs broken with sidesplitting humour.

Kurt is best known as the accidental tourist in the ever popular hit SA TV show 'Going Nowhere Slowly', and the whacky game show 'Crazy Games'. Now see the living legend for yourself as you’ve never seen him before and laugh away those oncoming autumn blues!

SPIDERS & MAYONNAISE runs at the Fringe at the JoBurg Theatre from 13 – 25 April 2010. Performances are from Tuesdays – Saturdays at 20h00.

Tickets are R120 and can be booked through Computicket at 083 915 8000 or www.computicket.com.

The show runs 1hour 20 minutes with no interval and carries a 13 age restriction.

“Cape Flats joker a master of delivery”

“Kurt Schoonraad's show has perfect timing.”

“…the stories he tells us have universal appeal.”

“It is very rare that we laugh with hatred, and Schoonraad's show elicits genuine, joyful laughs.”

“Spiders and Mayonnaise takes us on an investigation into how well - or not - the new South Africa works.”

“He weaves such a rich, diverse tapestry with his show…”

“Spiders and Mayonnaise is a topsy-turvy laugh-a-minute - and well worth the ticket price.”

Kurt Schoonraad’s Biography

Mad, zany, lively and manic are among the many words used to describe comedian Kurt Schoonraad. Hailing from Mitchell's Plain, Kurt's is Cape Town's favourite comedian and his earthy humour makes him a real South African boykie in every way. Although Kurt Schoonraad1.jpghilariously funny, he performs a clean act focusing on the widespread diversity of our rainbow nation’s varied cultures.

In 1999 at the start of the New Comedy Revolution one of his friends dared him to try out for the 'new faces' stage at the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival. To prove to his friends that any Schmuck from the streets would not be accepted for such a premier event, he tried out. He proved himself wrong by being accepting on the line-up.

Kurt then hooked up with the Cape Comedy Collective in 2000 and was given a platform (built by himself in his mom's garage) to experiment with his very unique observational style of South African comedy. According to family, he debuted at his second birthday party and has grown funnier with each passing year.

He has since gone on to pioneer Jou Ma se Comedy Club, a popular and ground-breaking weekly showcase that is truly benefiting Cape Town culture and the comedy industry as a whole. Kurt is thus seen as an ambassador by many of his contemporaries and has involved himself in a number of charitable causes to boot. Kurt is a popular favourite on the South African Arts Festival scene and some of his stage accolades include the East Coast Radio Ha Ha Comedy Showcase in Durban, Smirnoff Comedy Festival and the Cape Town International Comedy Festival. Most recently Kurt produced both The Barnyard National Comedy Festival and the Jou Ma se Comedy event, together with the Cape Town Festival.
