The aim of Hands On! Mic Off! at Moshito is to provide musicians with skills transfer and empowering workshops which will assist them in dealing with the challenges they face as musicians on a daily basis. The emphasis will be on practical application and relevance to the Southern African music industry.
In executing this, Hands On! Mic Off! has turned to some of the South African music and cultural industry’s most experienced practitioners.
Nicky Du Plessis, a specialist consultant in culture and development, will be facilitating “Inviting in the King.” This workshop will explore some of the most pressing issues for arts organisations and companies in respect of contemporary corporate governance.
A workshop on technology and social networking will be run by Bradley Williams, a South African hip-hop artist with more than a decade’s expertise as an independent label-owner, producer, A&R, concert promoter and innovator in the world of music and brands. Tax compliance risks and challenges specific to the music industry will be facilitated by Benjamin De Klerk, Ronald Netshivhulana and Peter Silenga, specialists in segmentation management and compliance research at SARS.
A discussion with Kobus Burger, editor, critic, and creative coach, will challenge musicians and managers to think creatively about their careers in the session ‘So You Think You’re a Musician?’, while Maria Kint and Nzali Jordan of the Cultural Development Trust will facilitate a workshop on Entrepreneurial Skills, through a highly engaging board game.
