On Wednesday, 11 May, Die Heuwels Fantasties were invited to attend the Budget Vote Speech for National Treasury at the Parliament in Cape Town. At the cocktail party afterwards, the SAMA winners rubbed shoulders with the likes of Deputity President Kgalema Motlanthe, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Minister in the Presidency, Trevor Manuel. Pierre Greeff, lead singer, said that it was interesting to attend this function and great to ask Trevor Manuel to pose with them for a photo like real fans!
Die Heuwels Fantasties performed at the Freedom Day celebrations in April, where President Zuma addressed the masses at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. The group performed firm favourites such as Klein Tambotieboom, Leja and Sonrotse. Afterwards, Jack Parow joined the group to perform the hits Cooler as Ekke and Die Vraagstuk. "The show at the Union Building was amazing... an ocean of faces who have never heard our music and everyone danced to it," says Pierre Greeff.
President Zuma autographed Jack Parow's CD after the performance! Other performers at the event included Selaelo Selota and Rebecca Malope.
At the SAMA Awards ceremony this year, Die Heuwels Fantasties teamed up with the Grammy award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir perform Our Heritage. This popular single, also featuring HHP, was released in September last year to unite all South Africans around braaivleis fires on Heritage Day. It was a Braai4Heritage initiative.
The strapping young fellows with Hunter and Pierre in the photo are Fred den Hartog and Philip Erasmus from the band Thieve. They play the lead guitar and drums respectively to complete Die Heuwels Fantasties’ live experience. Thieve, together with Jack Parow is signed to Hunter and Pierre's label, Supra Familias.
