Goldfish is an electronic duo consisting of two Jazz musicians Dominic Peters and David Poole. You may think that this is just another electronic act but you'd be way wrong. Having played in numerous jazz bands and projects, these two talented artists decided they wanted more out of music than jazz could offer them, the result is Goldfish.
Dom and Dave studied jazz together at UCT, they initially started recording tracks in Dave's diggs room, they were given great feedback from the tracks they recorded and from there developed a live setup to enable them to perform live with a lot of improvisation. When playing live they find grooves that feel good at the time and then hang around there and jam while it's working. The "fishies" as they're called by their fans, have become a jazzy house band, which allows them to introduce the dance crowd to elements of jazz and also share elements of house with the jazz community.
They have build a substantial fan base nationally and have made great inroads in the international market having performed live in a number of countries. You are just as likely to see them at jazz festivals as you are at rock concerts/festivals or any other gathering where a party is happening. They share the stage with live acts although often find themselves being put on the bill with DJ's. They colaborate with many extremely talented vocalists, who are predominantly connected with their years at UCT. Of their recent achievements, being nominated for 8 SAMA awards this year definitely up there.
Their performance at Splashy Fen was delivered to an already hyped audience who were in a musical frenzy. The marquee was thumping and pounding, almost breathing. There were many people who copuldn't get into the marquee but were satisfied to just be close enough to hear it and feel the vibe.
