Cape Town musician Rus Nerwich launches his new album, Under The Poetree, at The Assembly, 61 Harrington Street, Cape Town, on March 7 along with the Collective Imagination, a group put together especially to perform the tracks from his latest album.

A new electronic work from Rus, Under The Poetree cuts across music genres in an aural aesthetic that is both cool & expressive.

Along with Rus, the Collective Imagination band includes Souljaz Pros (MC), Kanyi (MC), Lindiwe Suttle (vocalist), Dave Ledbetter (guitar), Bokani Dyer (keyboards), Lee Thomson (trumpet), Ross Mcdonald (trombone), Shane Cooper (bass), and Jonno Sweetman (drums).

"This has been the most creative and challenging thing I've done - it's been an extraordinary process," says Rus of Under The Poetree, an electrifying album which is at times loungey, then dance-inspired and then jazzily reflective.
"And to perform with musicians of this calibre is both an honour and incredibly fulfilling," he says.
Under The Poetree is a name Rus decided was the exact context in which to embrace his new album.

"If I have to generalise, I'd call the album's music style "hip bop" - where influences of Soul, Hip hop, jazz and funk meet in a loungey melting pot of groovy head bobbin," says Rus. A jazz saxophonist by nature, for the past five years Rus has honed his craft with five previous album releases. Breaking the mould of a Saxophonist, he has boldly embraced the role of composer, producer and performer and Under the Poetree is an audio voyage which touches on notions of humanity, life, the universe and a little love in-between.
