The Victory Theatre is proud to announce that well-known South African theatre personality Anne Power has been appointed as general manager of the thriving theatre complex.

Power has been in the show business world for the past 28 years; singing, acting in musicals and plays and performing on radio and television and in movies.

This is the first time in her career she has been presented with the challenge to run a theatre but Power says she is looking forward to the chance to put her vast experience to use.

“I am delighted to be part of the Victory team. The theatre is one of the oldest in Johannesburg but the entire team running it is dynamic and determined continue to make it one of the city’s prime destinations.

“Owner Joe Theron has entrusted me with this challenge and I’m enjoying every minute of it. Having been involved in show business from the performing side and also very involved in putting together events, both performing in them and directing them for the corporate world, this seems liked a natural progression.

“I learned a lot working with major producers like Pieter Toerien, Richard Loring and Hazel Feldman. It is now time to put that experience to the test.”

Power is thrilled the line-up of shows that will be coming the buzzing venue over the next few months include Africa Umoja the Spiri of Togetheness, Andre the Hilarous Hypnotist and Mile High with Cathy Specific.

Theatre owner Joe Theron bought the venue in 2004 and spent R30-million rebuilding a new 470-seat theatre with a jazz bar and a 460-seat restaurant that flows up on to the roof with panoramic views of the northern suburbs. The restaurant offers an a la carte or set menu prepared by an award winning executive chef.

There is a new balcony and a slightly larger stage. However, it retains some of the charm of the old theatre with the original seats recovered in black leather. It has four levels of safe and secure parking, accessible from Louis Botha Avenue, with direct access to the theatre.

The Victory Theatre now also serves as a function and events venue and is able to cater for intimate social gatherings, corporate functions and conferences.
